Yapt\u0131klar\u0131 o kadar b\u00fcy\u00fckt\u00fcr ki unutulmas\u0131 da, yerlerinin dolmas\u0131 da m\u00fcmk\u00fcn de\u011fildir. E\u011fer bu bo\u015fluklar tez zamanda dolmazsa biraz daha kuruyaca\u011f\u0131z, \u00e7orakla\u015faca\u011f\u0131z demektir bu.<br \/>\nFuat Sezgin hoca, dopdolu bir \u00f6m\u00fcrden sonra; geriye \u00e7ok de\u011ferli bir ilmi birikim b\u0131rakarak dar\u2019\u00fcl bek\u00e2 eyledi. B\u0131rakt\u0131\u011f\u0131 eserleriyle amel defterleri kapanmayacak ve istifade edenlerin hay\u0131rla y\u00e2d edece\u011fi m\u00fcmtaz hocam\u0131z, 94 ya\u015f\u0131nda, 30 Haziran 2018 g\u00fcn\u00fc rahmeti rahmana kavu\u015ftu. Biz h\u00fcsn\u00fc zanla memuruz. Onun bu d\u00fcnyada \u00fczerine d\u00fc\u015feni fazlas\u0131yla yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcyorum. Miras\u0131 k\u0131yamete kadar sadaka-\u0131 c\u00e2riyesi, mek\u00e2n\u0131 cennet, makam\u0131 \u00e2li olsun.<br \/>\nBilimler Tarihi alan\u0131nda d\u00fcnyan\u0131n say\u0131l\u0131 otoritelerinden olan Fuat Sezgin hocan\u0131n d\u00fcnyada, T\u00fcrkiye\u2019den daha fazla tan\u0131nd\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 da ifade etmek gerekir.<br \/>\nBitlis\u2019ten Frankfurt\u2019a uzanan bir bilim adam\u0131n\u0131n, ilmin zirvesine uzanan hayat\u0131na bakacak olursak, 24 Ekim 1924\u2019te Bitlis\u2019te d\u00fcnyaya gelen Fuat Sezgin, liseyi bitirip 1943\u2019te \u0130stanbul\u2019a geldi. 19 ya\u015f\u0131ndayken, matematik okumak, matematik m\u00fchendisi olmak \u00fczere \u0130stanbul\u2019a gitti\u011finde, tavsiye \u00fczerine \u0130stanbul \u00dcniversitesi \u015earkiyat Ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar\u0131 Enstit\u00fcs\u00fcnde alan\u0131n\u0131n uzman\u0131, o g\u00fcn\u00fcn \u015fartlar\u0131nda d\u00fcnyaca \u00fcnl\u00fc Alman \u015farkiyat\u00e7\u0131 Helmut Ritter\u2019in bir seminerine kat\u0131larak \u00e7ok etkilenmi\u015f, matematik m\u00fchendisi olma fikrinden bile vazge\u00e7mi\u015ftir. Ertesi g\u00fcn\u00fc \u015earkiyat Ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar\u0131 Enstit\u00fcs\u00fcne kayd\u0131n\u0131 yapt\u0131rmaya gidip oran\u0131n \u00f6\u011frencisi olmu\u015ftur. B\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fcn \u00e7ok zor olmas\u0131 ve Ritter\u2019in \u00e7ok se\u00e7ici ve zor bir insan oldu\u011fu s\u00f6ylentilerine kulak bile asmam\u0131\u015f ve kimse onu fikrinden cayd\u0131ramam\u0131\u015ft\u0131r.<br \/>\nFuat Sezgin, hocas\u0131n\u0131n kendisini talebeli\u011fe kabul etmesini \u015f\u00f6yle anlat\u0131yor:<br \/>\n\u201cBir hoca vard\u0131. Hem de b\u00fcy\u00fck bir hoca. Alman as\u0131ll\u0131 Helmutt Ritter. Bir tan\u0131d\u0131\u011f\u0131m, bir g\u00fcn beni al\u0131p Ritter&#8217;e g\u00f6t\u00fcrd\u00fc. Bir s\u00fcre konu\u015ftuktan sonra i\u00e7imden &#8220;b\u00fcy\u00fck bir adamm\u0131\u015f&#8221; dedim. Ger\u00e7ekten de o k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck halimle bile, \u00e7ok b\u00fcy\u00fck bir adam\u0131n kar\u015f\u0131s\u0131nda oldu\u011fumu hissettim. O an karar verdim: &#8220;\u015earkiyat okuyaca\u011f\u0131m.&#8221; Ritter&#8217;le \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmaya ba\u015flad\u0131m. \u00c7ok zor bir adamd\u0131. \u00c7al\u0131\u015fmaya ba\u015flad\u0131ktan bir iki g\u00fcn sonra bana: &#8220;Fuat! G\u00fcnde ka\u00e7 saat \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131yorsun?&#8221; diye sordu. &#8220;13-14 saat \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131yorum&#8221; dedim. O zaman bana: &#8220;Bu \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmayla \u00e2lim olamazs\u0131n. E\u011fer \u00e2lim olmak istiyorsan bu miktar\u0131 art\u0131racaks\u0131n. Benim hocam (Eilhard) Wiedemann g\u00fcnde 24 saat \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131rd\u0131. G\u00fcn daha uzun olsayd\u0131 daha \u00e7ok \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131rd\u0131.&#8221; dedi. Bu konu\u015fmadan sonra \u00e7al\u0131\u015fma saatlerimi art\u0131rd\u0131m. 17 saate kadar \u00e7\u0131kard\u0131m. Uzun zaman b\u00f6yle devam ettim. Ger\u00e7ekten de talebelerinin ba\u015far\u0131s\u0131 kar\u015f\u0131s\u0131nda bu kadar \u00e7ok sevinen bir insan\u0131, bir hocay\u0131 hayat\u0131m boyunca tan\u0131mad\u0131m.\u2019\u2019<br \/>\nSezgin hi\u00e7 tak\u0131lmadan onu da okuyup manalar\u0131n\u0131 s\u00f6yleyince, Hocas\u0131 Ritter kendisine be\u015f tane dil \u00f6\u011frenme vazifesi verdi\u011fi gibi her y\u0131l da bu dillere yeni bir dil daha \u00f6\u011frenerek dil repertuar\u0131n\u0131 geni\u015fletmesini kendisine sal\u0131k verir. S\u00fcryanice, \u0130branice, Latince, Arap\u00e7a ve Almanca da d\u00e2hil 27 dili \u00e7ok iyi derecede bilen Sezgin\u2019in, dil literat\u00fcr\u00fcn\u00fcn o g\u00fcnlerde at\u0131lan bu temelle ve g\u00f6sterilen bu gayretle oldu\u011funu g\u00f6r\u00fcyoruz.<br \/>\n\u201cT\u00fcrkler dilin masa ba\u015f\u0131nda \u00f6\u011frenildi\u011fini bilmiyorlar. Zannediyorlar ki Frans\u0131zca \u00f6\u011frenmek i\u00e7in Fransa&#8217;ya gitmek gerekiyor. Almanya&#8217;ya T\u00fcrkler geliyor. 30 -40 sene kal\u0131yorlar, Almanca \u00f6\u011frenemiyorlar. (Fuat Sezgin, Bilim Tarihi Sohbetleri, s. 56.)<br \/>\nKa\u00e7 dil bildi\u011fini bilmedi\u011fini de ifade eden Prof. Dr. Sezgin, o tarihte \u015funlar\u0131 da s\u00f6ylemi\u015f: \u201c\u0130sl\u00e2m bilimleri tarihini yazmak i\u00e7in o alanda yaz\u0131l\u0131 b\u00fct\u00fcn Avrupa dillerini bilmen l\u00e2z\u0131m. Hepsini \u00f6\u011freniyordum. M\u00fchim olan irade meselesidir. \u2018Ben bunu yapaca\u011f\u0131m\u2019 diyeceksiniz. O karar\u0131n\u0131zda kalacaks\u0131n\u0131z. T\u00fcrk genci olarak bir enstit\u00fc kuruyorum kolay bir \u015fey de\u011fildi. \u00dcniversitede m\u00fccadele ediyordum ben bir m\u00fcze kurdum, enstit\u00fc kurdum. E\u011fer arkan\u0131zda inanc\u0131n\u0131z varsa o sizi yap\u0131c\u0131 olmaya itiyorsa \u00e7ok \u015feyler ba\u015far\u0131rs\u0131n\u0131z. Benim hayat\u0131m\u0131n s\u0131rr\u0131 budur.\u201d<br \/>\nBir r\u00f6portaj\u0131nda 27 dil bilmesi hakk\u0131nda olanca tevazusuyla, &#8220;Bir dilde yaz\u0131lm\u0131\u015f ve ihtiyac\u0131m olan bir kaynak kitap oldu\u011funu \u00f6\u011frenirsem, onu okumak i\u00e7in mecburen oturup o dili \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131yorum, birka\u00e7 haftada \u00f6\u011freniyorum. Dolay\u0131s\u0131yla o kadar dil bildi\u011fimi s\u00f6ylemek do\u011fru olmaz, kayna\u011f\u0131 okuyacak kadar\u0131 diyelim&#8221; gibi bir c\u00fcmle sarf etmi\u015fti.<br \/>\nHocas\u0131n\u0131n bilimlerin temelinin, &#8220;\u0130slam Bilimleri&#8221;ne dayand\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 s\u00f6ylemesiyle bu alana y\u00f6nelen Sezgin, 1951 senesinde \u0130stanbul \u00dcniversitesi Edebiyat Fak\u00fcltesi&#8217;ni bitirdikten sonra, Arap Dili ve Edebiyat\u0131 \u00fczerinde doktora yapt\u0131.<br \/>\n1954&#8217;te Arap Dili ve Edebiyat\u0131 B\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fc&#8217;nde, &#8220;Buhari&#8217;nin Kaynaklar\u0131&#8221; adl\u0131 doktora tezi ile do\u00e7ent oldu. Bu teziyle o, hadis kayna\u011f\u0131 olarak \u0130slam k\u00fclt\u00fcr\u00fcnde \u00f6nemli bir yere sahip olan Buhari&#8217;nin, bilinenin aksine s\u00f6zl\u00fc kaynaklara de\u011fil, &#8220;yaz\u0131l\u0131 kaynaklara dayand\u0131\u011f\u0131&#8221; tezini ortaya att\u0131. Bu yaz\u0131l\u0131 kaynaklar\u0131n, \u0130slam&#8217;\u0131n erken d\u00f6nemine; hatta 7. y\u00fczy\u0131la kadar geri gitti\u011fini ortaya koydu. S\u00f6z konusu tez, Avrupa merkezli oryantalist \u00e7evrelerde hala tart\u0131\u015fma konusudur.<br \/>\n\u201cBuhar\u00ee \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmas\u0131 \u015f\u00f6yle ba\u015flad\u0131: Mecazu&#8217;l-Kur&#8217;an&#8217;\u0131n kaynaklar\u0131n\u0131 ar\u0131yordum. O s\u0131rada \u0130bn Hacer el-Askalan\u00ee&#8217;nin Tehzib adl\u0131 eseriyle kar\u015f\u0131la\u015ft\u0131m. Muammer b. Musemma&#8217;y\u0131 Buhar\u00ee&#8217;nin kitab\u0131nda Muammer diye zikretti\u011fini \u00f6\u011frendim, &#8220;Buhari&#8217;nin ne alakas\u0131 var bu kitapla?&#8221; dedim. Buhari&#8217;nin kitab\u0131n\u0131n sekiz b\u00fcy\u00fck b\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fc vard\u0131r, bir k\u0131sm\u0131 tefsirdir. Buhar\u00ee&#8217;nin kitab\u0131na bakt\u0131m, &#8220;K\u00e2le Muammer&#8221; diye al\u0131nt\u0131lar yap\u0131yor. Bunu okuyunca bakt\u0131m ki, Buhar\u00ee, Mecazu&#8217;l-Kur&#8217;an&#8217;dan da c\u00fcmleler iktibas ediyor. Yani bir hadis kitab\u0131nda, bir filoloji kitab\u0131ndan al\u0131nma uzun c\u00fcmleler var. Hatta yer yer, a\u015fa\u011f\u0131 yukar\u0131, kitab\u0131 ihtisar etmi\u015f. Bu durum, b\u00fct\u00fcn hadisler hakk\u0131ndaki tasavvurumu allak bullak etti. Karar verdim, tezi bitirince Buhar\u00ee&#8217;ye bakacakt\u0131m: Acaba Buhar\u00ee ara s\u0131ra da olsa yaz\u0131l\u0131 kaynak kulland\u0131 m\u0131? Birka\u00e7 Amerikan ve Alman \u00fcniversitesine yazd\u0131m. \u0130ki ay sonra iki Amerikan \u00fcniversitesinden ve Frankfurt&#8217;tan davet geldi. Daha kitab\u0131n malzemelerini tamamlayamam\u0131\u015ft\u0131m. T\u00fcrkiye\u2019den uzakla\u015fmayay\u0131m, s\u0131k s\u0131k T\u00fcrkiye\u2019ye gelmek zorunda kal\u0131r\u0131m diye 1961 y\u0131l\u0131nda Frankfurt\u2019u tercih ettim.\u2019\u2019<br \/>\n1960\u201361 y\u0131llar\u0131nda, Almanya&#8217;ya giderken yan\u0131na, k\u0131yafetlerinin d\u0131\u015f\u0131nda, sadece iki bavul dolusu fi\u015f ve belge alabildi. Frankfurt \u00dcniversitesi&#8217;nde misafir do\u00e7ent olarak dersler verdi.<br \/>\nFrankfurt&#8217;a gittikten sonra Almanya&#8217;da ya\u015fad\u0131\u011f\u0131 halde Alman vatanda\u015f\u0131 olabilecekken o bunu redderek T\u00fcrk vatanda\u015f\u0131 olarak kald\u0131. 1966 senesinde profes\u00f6r oldu. Bilimsel \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n\u0131n a\u011f\u0131rl\u0131k noktas\u0131, &#8220;Arap-\u0130slam K\u00fclt\u00fcr\u00fc&#8221; n\u00fcn, &#8220;Tabii bilimler tarihi alan\u0131&#8221;d\u0131r.<br \/>\n1961 senesinde fi\u015flerle ba\u015flad\u0131\u011f\u0131 \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131, zaman ilerledik\u00e7e ona \u00fcn kazand\u0131rd\u0131.<br \/>\nProf. Fuat Sezgin, Almanya\u2019da d\u00fcnyan\u0131n en b\u00fcy\u00fck \u0130slam Bilim Tarih\u00e7isi oldu. Oryantalistlerin b\u00fct\u00fcn tezlerini yerle bir eden bilimsel \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131yla bu alan\u0131n otoritesi haline geldi. \u0130slam bilim tarihi alan\u0131nda b\u00fct\u00fcn \u015farkiyat\u00e7\u0131lar\u0131n el kitab\u0131 gibi kulland\u0131klar\u0131 \u201cBrockelmann\u2019\u0131n Geschichte der Arabischen Literatur\u2019\u2019 adl\u0131 eserini geli\u015ftirmek ve geni\u015fletmekle ilgilenen ve farkl\u0131 \u00fclkelerden se\u00e7ilen 10\u2019dan fazla akademisyenden olu\u015fan bir heyet bu i\u015fi d\u00fcnyada en iyi yapacak olan ki\u015finin Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin oldu\u011fu karar\u0131n\u0131 vererek kendilerini la\u011fvederler.<br \/>\n\u201cEvet, tam 50 sene oldu. Fakat \u00e7al\u0131\u015ft\u0131k\u00e7a fikrim de\u011fi\u015fti. Hem biraz da gecikmi\u015ftim. Gecikmemin nedeni de Brockelmann&#8217;\u0131n atlad\u0131\u011f\u0131 yazmalar\u0131n \u00e7ok olmas\u0131yd\u0131. Bu eserin bir Zeyl de\u011fil, m\u00fcstakil yeni bir eser olmas\u0131 gerekti\u011fine karar verdim. D\u00fcnyadaki b\u00fct\u00fcn yazmalar\u0131 ihtiva etmeliydi. 1956 y\u0131l\u0131nda Ritter T\u00fcrkiye&#8217;ye gelmi\u015fti.
